Ventura County is located between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
Stretching from Westlake Village to Santa Barbara and from the Pacific Ocean to the mountains, Ventura County offers just about every type of Southern California living. Often referred to as the Gold Coast, Ventura County has a reputation of being one of the safest populated places and one of the most affluent places in the country. It is ranked as one of the top 100 highest-income counties in the country and as the 6th wealthiest county in California by per capita income. According to Wikipedia, median home prices range from $400,000 to around $2 million. There are a large number of technology corporations including telecommunications, healthcare development, and biotech corporations located in the Conejo Valley area. The county seat is the city of Ventura (formally known as San Buenaventura). Ventura County's largest city is Oxnard, with a population of about 200,000. The Northwestern part of the county is mountainous and mostly uninhabited, and contains some of the most unspoiled, rugged and inaccessible wilderness remaining in southern California. Most of this land is in the Los Padres National Forest, and includes the Chumash Wilderness.
Offering an exceptional quality of life, the area enjoys mild temperatures and access to beaches, mountains, and many arts and civic activities. Including the beach communities of Oxnard and Ventura, the bustling city of Thousand Oaks with its shops, restaurants and arts and cultural amenities, the picturesque small, formerly agricultural towns of Camarillo, Moorpark and Somis which retain a real small town feeling where residents enjoy a neighborly atmosphere where everyone seems to know one another, and the beautiful mountain communities in the canyons leading to Ojai — you can find the perfect neighborhood for you and you family or the perfect retirement area for empty nesters.
Ventura County's 21 public school districts are committed to providing high quality education to a K-12 student population. Three community colleges and a public four year university provide continuing education opportunities. California State University Channel Islands, California’s newest university, is located just south of Camarillo and has developed an excellent reputation as an institute for higher learning. Ventura College, an accredited two-year institution of higher education, has been a part of this beautiful seaside community since 1925
